OK, this is just funny. I was looking at the VON.x schedules and I noticed in the “Core Issues” track that right after the “End of Life for IPv4 - Time for IPv6″ block, they have scheduled this: “Practical NAT Traversal Solutions”.
There just playing tricks with us! OK sure, I wont be claiming that Practical NAT traversal wouldn’t have any business value, but if it is time for IPv6, the lets put our back into it, and make it happen! Instead of nervously trying to manage your sparse IPv4 addresses…

A small step for man, a giant leap for interoperability. The IMS Forum is presenting its results from the 4th plugfest at VON. I hope they also disseminate the results somehow on the internet in more then just a news bulletin.
The latest press release from IMS Forum at claims a milestone in OSS and BSS interoperability. So that sounds good! So Amdocs has shown their IMS/Diameter portfolio. Unfortunately I don’t know the Amdocs portfolio from the inside (basically only names on their website). So I’m not really sure what this means. At least its moving in the right direction! And guys: share! And not just at VON, we’re not all able to go there
Plugfest 5 is also working on Charging and Billing! I only know the title, but it sounds good: “NGN M-Play, OSS/BSS and Billing Applications”. Lets hope that more BSS vendors will join. We don’t wont te be interoperable with just Amdocs now do we.

Running SIP on the Android emulator?
Check out:

Very good work from those guys, congratulations! They only have the signalling part running, but it’s a start!
This might mean that even though Google is basically an IMS anti-sponsor, that through support of people/companies like these Android phones will support IMS or at least SIP. Fits very well with the architecture of using Intents and Intent Receivers, just set this application to be the Intent Receiver of tel: and sip: uri’s with CALL and DIAL intents and you have a SIP/IMS phone!!! Isn’t that great!
